I might play again, but only if I can become trupro. Also, I need to find a classic server with 12-14 max slot, which doesn't exist.

Okay, so I'm thinking that Gorge's Hideout should be a 14-18 player classic server, with just admin plugins installed. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I think there are already enough big NS servers out there, and huge games tend to get pretty chaotic. I've recently enjoyed several mid-size games (mid-day, before servers fill up), and would like to have a server devoted to that. Thoughts?

i agree agt i like small games because it involves more teamwork which means less rambos and its easy to give out gear and etc for rines
for aliens same ole same ole just make sure in the rules it says ask team before you drop a starting chamber

12 or 14 I think would be optimal, though take into consideration I am from the CAL/ANSL days which means I am used to pugs/scrims/matches which were a mandatory 6v6. A smaller server size would definitely cut out a lot of the chaos; however it would not affect the teamwork or rambos in a necessarily good way. In fact, I would argue it could only exacerbate the rambos as a highly skilled player can much more easily take on 6 (or 5) opponents than 13. The only counter to that is skill balance, but we all know that never happens. One inherent balance is the ability for aliens to reswhore more easily to get out a higher life form, but in the end it still will come down to skill difference which is beyond our control. The effect of teamwork would be magnified since you have less players to carry the burden. Like it or not, special teams are formed (consciously or otherwise) that consist of less players which mean greater room for error and thus will push the teamwork aspect to be about as important as skill and overall team strategy.

So I suppose the point here is that if you want a less TDM style game and more FPS-RTS one then you should definitely go with smaller. I personally think 6v6 is best as it gives a good balance with marine field control and mutual res aggregation. 5v5 is a little alien biased and 7v7 starts to push it toward the marines (but not by much). 6 marines on the field makes you able to have a 2-2-2, 3-3, 4-2, or 4-1-1 setup which is way more dangerous to deal with than a 3-2/1-4 team.

As for add-ons, I would love to see it pure vanilla with a classic/official rotation with the only extra stuff to be admin mods. No combat either or at least no combat once you have 8+ players (I would greatly prefer the former).

Shouldn't we focus on filling the one we have now and growing the community base again?

I like these plans as a bit more "down the road" ideas.  I'm willing to hear your opinions on the matter.

I say we start filling up darwin and then we can focus on filling a classic server. Lets be honest here... there are like 4 dozen classic servers out there.

Or we can fill up the siege server that used to be the top of the NS list for most played and redirect to a possible classic server once we get it filled up again.

I'd rather do that than waste your money AGT (no offense) or move it to gorges where it will just sit the most of the time

I agree that Darwin's needs to be worked on, so that, for one thing, it works properly. It was for a long time *the* crazy place to hang out in NS, and that was great. However, I spent a lot more time on GH, and for a while we had a very solid playerset, pulled from both within and without the community, with a lot of high quality players who were a lot of fun to play with. One of the best things was that even though it wasn't always full, if you got 4-5 people on there, it'd fill up the rest of the way pretty quick.

I really see siege and classic as being two separate markets, which really don't compete much for players. If anything, by having both, we can give each server a playerbase to pull from. In the past, when GH was empty, I could hop on SoD and admin say "Is anyone up for some classic?". I'd usually get 6-8 people who'd reply yes, and off we'd go, and SoD would refill with more siege payers, and GH would be full for the next few hours. But those people were people who were usually on SoD "against their will", since they really wanted to be on GH, but they didn't want to have to seed it. I'd really like to give it a go with having two working servers, as opposed to the status quo, which is 0 working servers. =)

Small classic server sounds interesting. I have to admit I don't really know the tricks or style of playing classic, I sort of wing it everytime I play. That being said I'd definitely enjoy learning lol.

I agree with the two different markets, but right now isn't there less competition for the siege?

I honestly don't know what the markets are for custom/siege/classic, but if it is anything like it used to be then I would believe that you could get a regular following for a small vanilla classic. The main reason I quit NS is because there were no small vanilla servers left. Everything turned to big 28+ player games which isn't really what I enjoy. When I tired to come back and be interested again, the only servers I could find were BAD, some other no name clan, and a bunch of bot servers.

Yeah, that's about all there is. I haven't found a small classic server that's any good. I think we could rebuild some of our "street cred" by setting one up, and by finding all of the Xipods and getting them to play on GH. :D

That would be horrible. Marines would constantly win.
