Suspensions due to S2 conduct violations.
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:59:33 PM »
HoN states in the information screen after loading in that S2 has handed out a total of 5914 suspensions for violations of their conduct policy (with a whopping 52% guilty rate).

That's intense.  After peeking at the conduct myself, as long as you're conducting yourself as an [IAM] member should, you should be fine.

One prong of these violations is called "griefing," which has given HoN's community a bad name.  Here's an explanation:

Griefing

Purposeful irritation or harassment of other players whether verbally or through the game contrary to game objectives. Griefing includes both verbal and gameplay abuses. Objectionable behavior takes many forms, and all are punishable. To avoid being punished for griefing, you should always be on your best behavior and play the game as it was intended. Avoid being part of the problem! Punishable subcategories include, but are not limited to:
Avoiding AFK Detection
Ability/Item Abuse
Intentional Feeding
Calling Out Allied Positions
Game Throwing in General
Illogical Refusal to Participate
Item Destruction
Mass Item Spamming
Racism
Verbal Abuse

Due to their explicit inclusion in our rules, [IAM] should not be partaking in any sort of verbal abuse. racism or any of the other offenses (verbal abuse being the only one I'd be slightly worried about here).  I just wanted to make sure everyone saw this list.

I think it's safe to say that multiple people play this game every day and are usually on Mumble while doing so.

Hey now, I bothered to actually give effort in that inhouse the other day and did just fine :P

Just need to make sure I'm not checking facebook 20 times or IM's while playing. Or being distracted by family members..... then the feeding stops.

It's also not intentional if we've been drinking!

RAP Suspension Increased
With the release of Empath this Friday we've decided to do some restructuring of the Report A Player system.

We believe that HoNs playerbase should be free from griefers; that you shouldn't have to worry about your game being ruined and that you should have the right to play the game how it was meant to be played.

In order to achieve that, we are going to be increasing the suspension lengths for breaching the Rules of Conduct.

The suspension lengths that were being issued before were quite low (1-2 days depending on the violation) and many players either never knew they were suspended or simply didn't mind the short ban lengths, so we've decided to increase this in hopes of deterring griefers.

Here is the new layout for R.A.P. suspension lengths of first time and repeat offenders:

Griefing & Stats Manipulation
Offense #   Duration
1   3 Days
2   1 Week
3   2 Weeks
4   1 month
5   3 months
6   Perma

Bad Nickname
Offense #   Duration    Other
1   1 Day    Name Change
2   1 Month   Name change
3   Permanent   Indefinite suspension

Our goals for why we increased the suspension lengths are very simple:

    * To ensure players are free from griefing.
    * Allow for an enjoyable gaming experience. And lastly,
    * Prevent rule breaking.

As long as each player does their part in reporting problematic players, I fully believe we can achieve those goals; so please, continue to help us help you.

Thank you!

F.A.Q.

Q:When will this go into effect?
A:Friday, February 4th 2011

Q:What about Verbal Abuse, Bug Exploitation, and Obscene Language?
A:We're going to be combining all these into the "Griefing" category, since the aim of doing such things is to ruin ones gaming experience.

Q:What will happen if I broke the rules before this new increase?
A:You will be subject to the new rules if you had broken the rules previously. We believe that if you decided to break the rules and intentionally ruin the games of others, you agreed to all consequences that may stem from it.

Q:What about my warning?
A:Game Masters will be able to warn players who have not broken the Rules of Conduct but who have come close. Also, players were warned when R.A.P. first came into it's beginning; you may also consider this a reminder. Furthermore, we will be putting up an in-game MOTD to remind players of the new suspension lengths.

Q:What if I believe I was ruled against unfairly or I have evidence to support my claims?
A:You may use the R.A.P. Suspension Appeal to refute your claims and a Senior Game Master or S2 Staff will review your case.

Q:I rage at times, will I receive a 3 day suspension?!
A:It's understandable that most people get angry when playing; for a game with such a high level of competitive play and where the smallest mistakes can be game changing, people often become upset. As long as you're not ruining the game experience, or verbally abusing other players, you'll be in the clear.

Q:Is there a way to check to see if someone I reported is banned? Or maybe a global list of all the rule breakers?
A:No, we will not be adding this feature either. Players, even if they did break the rules, still have a right to their individual privacy and should not be put on a list to be scrutinized against; everyone makes mistakes.
