HoN - Vanilla v. Modded
« on: August 02, 2010, 02:09:34 PM »
Do you think the encouragement of mods adds to a competitive advantage/disadvantage?

I know that in my FPS competitive days, mods were completely illegal and being caught with any modifications pretty much meant you were done as a competitor.  That being said, the tower range/death timer/recommended tab re-arrange do prove to be very helpful.  Just curious on your opinions.  Maybe we could have a decent discussion about this.

I'm in the middle on this. Of course, I use as many mods as I can get my hands on :D

I use them for several reasons

1. As epic as my computer is, it sometimes can't handle HoN in it's "vanilla" state. A few mods clean up the UI removing many features. The most notable is the removal of the 3D image of your hero. I can up my graphics a whole setting just because of this mod. That pic is a resource hog haha!

2. The custom recommended items mod can be catered to each players need. It's just the organizational aspect that helps me. Saves me 2 seconds from searching around for what I want.

As for everything else, they definitely help the player but doesn't necessarily give a great advantage. Take one of my last games for instance, I played SS, several other teammates who did far better than me had a vanilla game compared to my modded version.

I'm vanilla

I don't think mods are bad, even in my TFC days, I ran sparky's mod, and while giving you good information, it didn't tell you anything that would imbalance the game, so I don't have anything against mods...i'm just too lazy to run them.
