Frankly, I'm SICK of seeing the diving. It's the whole reason people in NA can't get into it... they're being babies. And then people try and say "It's part of the game!" Fuck that it is! Grow up and be a man, stop crying to get the advantage and play your heart out instead!
A few solutions from other sports: If you go down, you HAVE to step off the field. This rule comes from hockey and football (where people actually get hurt) and is in place for two reasons: A) So that an injured player can't be tough and stay on and get hurt further (never the case in soccer it seems since it's just diving...) and B) Because it is a delay of game, so if you're not actually hurt, you get a penalty.
They could also actually card the person for a delay of game and/or diving if it is obvious that they dove. Often times it's not even close... hit the left ankle and they hold their right knee? come on

They do get a card if they dive, they even get a red card if they are trying to fool the referee for a penalty, but the thing here compared to football and other sports is that the referee is part of the game, part of the risk about them making an error or not, yeah it is lame and its also lame when you delay the game, but its all strategy, its just like if you make changes when the game is almost over but thats a strat you can easily eat 3-4 mins with a substitution... thats why this game its not only a soccer world cup, referees here are also contending to get to whistle on the final... oh and BTW if they delay the game like taking forever to make a shot, they also get a yellow card, most of the times goalies get yellow cards because of that!

And yet they NEVER make any of those calls. There are SO many dives, and people never get carded. If anything, the refs buy into the BS more than they call it. And 4 minutes for a substitution? Sorry, but I'd give them 30 seconds MAX to get that done. And as for "It's a strategy" I say no, it is not. It is essentially cheating and bending the rules, especially given you cited that there ARE rules to card people if this is done.

ok lets break this down like funky town
First, running, it is hard not to agree with the fact that diving and playing hurt does wreck the game, but Cronxs is right that the use of extra referee's (tested this year in the UEFA Europa League (step down from the Champions League and formerly known as the UEFA CUP) has helped the game flow improve greatly.
You have to see beyond the small eccentricities of every professional sport and look at the pure athleticism, pride and support of clubs and national teams as well as incredible excitement. Every sport has its "negative" area, and moreover, i think you would like soccer more if you watched it at a club level rather than a national level (like the world cup) which has been for the most part very lack luster (save and except a few games).
However that being said, don't watch Major League Soccer, that is by far the most crappy league ever conceived of.
Next, Cronxs, can you believe Germany? Holy Crap they BLEW IT! lol.
I was so impressed by the hard work of Mexico, I think you are right, they are gonna go far this time.
And lastly,
Paintball is not a professional sport nor a sport at all, it is a hobby, and if you ever hear any claims otherwise, make sure you slap em in the head
Just wanted to state that
WC pics up soon, last game of the day is almost over. England Vs. Algeria

I used to play soccer. Was actually pretty good at midfield based on my speed alone, along with my nature of being defensive. They'd tell me to play up high and often move up to feed the striker, but they knew I'd be back witht he defense (and was very useful there as well). I really do like the game, the offside rule is the only thing that bothers me actaully.... I think that once ou're within the box, you can't go offside. Otherwise, just float the D out so that they can't get in close to the net....

I'm supporting the US and England equally, and I have to say that today was very disappointing. First that out-of-nowhere call that eliminated the US's third goal, and then England plays like a bunch of geriatrics and it's 0-0. What the hell is that?
Also, Running, I agree - diving is stupid and spoils games. If I were a ref Renaldo wouldn't last ten minutes - as one of the commentators pointed out when Portugal was playing, "Any contact at all, and Renaldo goes down. Even a puff of wind.". I mean, I don't want to see players getting violent with each other, because that ruins the sport, but a lot of teams stay upright almost under any circumstances - North Korea comes to mind - and it makes for much more interesting, entertaining play.
Speaking of, did anyone else think that Brasil vs. N. Korea was an excellent game? I really thought that North Korea was going to equalize during stoppage - what an upset that would have been!
-AGT
p.s. The offisde rule is SO MUCH better now than it was in 2006 - they've made some good changes.

I missed all the games today while I was at work D: hopefully they do re-runs of it tonight. I'm rooting for England mainly. And also Italy and Germany on the side.
I agree with the diving thing aswell. it seems to be happening ALOT. When I played soccer, no one did that unless you were severely hurt. The game would keep going unless you needed it to stop. I was a midfielder too. My stamina is perfect for that. I could run up and down the field all day. And I was really good at stealing the ball from people. Oh how I wish I didn't work so much so I could join a league again.

I played left wing defense and goalie back at highschool we used to be good, we lost the state finals and some of my friends were recruited to the sub 17 national team, but only one made it to the final group.
Germany was very dissapointing I had a meeting with a client at 1:30 and couldn't see England's game still most ppl tell me I didn't miss much
I still belive Germany, Italy and Brazil to be the best so far in the tournament.

Haha my friend was telling me about that thing. I like how there was an international call for it to be stopped because of how ridiculous it was, only to have South African officials say "Please respect our culture" and then later claims that it was because of racism (SOOOO stupid since it's not like everybody but black people hate it...). How about respecting the players and everybody who is going insane having to listen to that? It's worse than a car alarm.
