Veteran's Day and Remembrance Day - Lest We Forget
« on: November 11, 2011, 01:38:38 PM »

A big thank you goes out to all that are serving/have served.  Specifically, to the many within the [IAM] Clan and Community, whom we hold dear to our hearts and either have served or continue to serve, we thank you and wish you the utmost safety in the future.  The rightful respect for your service has not faded within our ranks and we truly appreciate all that you continue to do.

Added in From [IAM] Punisher:

Every year on November 11, Canadians honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country during times of war, military conflict and peace.  Honour all who fight, have fought and died for the safety of our country.
In remembrance, I wear my poppy proudly and thank all of those serving our country.  Thank you

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Amen and Thank you!

I feel extraordinarily lucky to be able to work with some of the men and women serving our country, and I'm honored that I can do my part (as little as it is) for them all.

To all our fellow [IAM]'ers out there, and to all the soldiers in general: stay safe and come home soon!

I've combined Punisher's thread with this one to make sure we get both the USA/Canada holidays correctly represented.  Thank you Punisher for your eloquent post.

Sadly enough, most people just don't understand the sacrifice these guys make.

Part of me taking my new job as the IT Administrator for my company and finally getting out of the hellhole asphalt plant I've been in charge of for the past three years was training a new plant superintendent. I told my boss not to bother hiring anyone that wasn't a returning vet looking for work.

I told him I'd openly refuse to train anyone else. The only way they finally accepted it (like it wasn't a noble thing to do to begin with) was that I pointed out they also get a tax credit for hiring them. At least these guys know they have people at home looking out for them.

Unfortunately the younger generation has no respect for the day anymore...my brother told me in his highschool over the announcements a girl went "it's 11:11 make a wish!" on Rememberance Day instead of asking for a moment of silence...My jaw dropped when he told me that. I was very shocked and disgusted at the disrespect.

I proudly wear a poppy every Rememberance Day.

I managed to lose 6 poppies in the span of two weeks.
I found two more in my car from last year.
In respect to those boys and girls that have and will fight for our continuing freedom.
Lest we forget.

iba, that is noble of you.

As for everything else.. my great uncle died last week. Funeral was on the 11th. He fought in WW2 when he was 15 (lied about age). Guys that that... amazing. He was also an AMAZING and caring and friendly man. And a real man too. not just tough as nails, but someone you wanted to be friends with.

Also, as much as I like to pretend I have no fear, war scared the hell out of me. But they go to hell, and not all make it back.
