Squish's pushbutton ignition
« on: February 22, 2012, 11:03:36 AM »
It's rare that I post a youtube video that I made, but here it is:

The ignition system broke on my VW.  The fix for this particular problem costs $100+ and is apparently a bitch to take on.  The bolts that hold the ignition system on are security bolts and almost impossible to remove without modifying them (dremel tool).  Therefore, I spent about $40 on relays and switches and modified my VW for pushbutton ignition.  Here's the 2 minute video showing the final result.  Maybe I'll install the rockets and machineguns next month TP.

Here's some pics

yeah it's pretty quiet inside...but it's probably more of an idication of how poorly my phone picks up noises that aren't right next to the mic

I thought you flew to Texas? Joyride and leave it in a Jehova's driveway?

lol, it will disable itself if you don't have the key in...technically you could fool that with an rfid setup on a laptop, but the steering wheel will still lock.

you're still going to need a wrecker to steal my car...however, I've seen the pickup iba drives when he's down here and it will suffice.

it needs a new shift knob, so i'm sure i'll get something that glows.  The factory stereo started crapping out, so it's about to get an mp3 radio (no disk) with inputs for my phone.  Ideally, i'll make a custom mount for my HTC inspire so that I can use my phone for turn-by-turn navigation through the car speakers, etc...but that will take some doing.

Just a stereo with bluetooth should do the trick. At least the ones I work with all you gotta do is hit the bluetooth media button and all sounds will get redirected along with phone calls, notifications, etc...

That's pretty damn excellent.  The only problem I have, is that I don't see any duct tape in this fix.  I DEMAND duct tape for this kind of work!
