I object to the bill and don't see it passing.

If it does pass I am willing to bet it will make it's way to the Supreme Court and will most likey get over turned.

Military doesn't know a thing about law... they are trained for combat, not law. Sorry, but this is beyond stupid. It's the reason that even an MP needs to be fully trained like any other cop in training. But... I doubt this will ever come into effect.

Where is the actual language of the bill?  I'm not about to watch a terrorist-style bullshit video to get my political commentary.

Ouch, that video was pretty terrible.
On the note of the actual subject at hand, it's an act that gets put up (and, so far, passed) every year in regards to DOD spending.  People are saying that it includes a few choice bits about how anyone can be detained for any length of time if they're believed to be a terrorist.  It's interesting, that the senate version and house version of the same bill/act are different, in that the senate one seems to have the bit about being able to arrest folks, while the house one doesn't have anything about that at all.

LINKS!

Senate one: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112s1867pcs/pdf/BILLS-112s1867pcs.pdf
House one (at the questionable section, too): http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h112-1540&version=rfs&nid=t0%3Arfs%3A4669 (it's long, and the site is odd, but this should take you to the right area)

It sounds like its use would be for terrorism and the like.  If you're detained you can still appeal via habeas corpus.  I don't find it an outrage to find one sentence in textbook size bills that does not comply with all forms of semantics.  I don't see the big problem here until it is used improperly and that's when your rights under the Constitution take over.

They have all sorts of stupid laws on the books that are not used.  Just take a peek in the code books, I'm sure you'll find something laughable.

1. I quickly disregard any video giving political advice that includes a guy fawkes mask...you guys should adopt the same policy.

Ok, now that I've gotten that out of the way

These days I'm a little wary of fights picked up by the ACLU.  I know it's unfair to hate the entire organization over the actions of a few, but here are a couple of my favorites:

this girl sued her school with help from the aclu because they suspended her for violation of their facial piercings policy claiming she belonged to a religious group known as the Church of Body Modification that has 2 members...she and her mother.

*  The Tennessee branch sent letters to superintendents from schools all across the state "reminding" them not to focus on one religious holiday (Christmas) during the holiday season.

*  In New Jersey, a school that has been holding it's graduation at a church for the last 60 years has to start covering up the crosses during graduation, or else they will be sued on behalf of ????

Plain and simple, the ACLU has waged war on Christianity here in the US.  I am a Christian, so this obviously bothers me.  So while I haven't read much on these Bills mentioned in this thread, forgive me for stating outright that I'm going to start from a bias that this is probably total horseshit and hype.

I'd say the ACLU just fights for the Constitution to be enforced the way it is written and interpreted.  Currently, that is religion-neutral.  It's not a war on Christianity, it's just an easy place to find issues with separation of church and state due to its vast prevalence and historical presence.

No doubt some things are a bit litigation heavy though, but they have done some pretty notable things over time.

I'd agree with you until you look at things like prayer in school.  They have sued on behalf of muslim students to allow them time for muslim prayer, but do a quick google search and you can see how they feel about christian prayer in schools.

But hey, that's just my opinion.
