Bin Laden is dead.  Chalk one up for the USA.  Celebrate and congrats to those in our military.

Lesson #1 to the universe from America:

If you blow our shit up, we will f***ing kill you. Kill you dead.

.... You guys realize that this changed absolutely nothing other than gaining revenge, right? You've already found many of the people that mattered. More importantly, dismantled much of that organization. This guy was in hiding, and hunting him down wasted a LOT of resources that could have been used elsewhere... Sorry but this hunt was fueled by revenge and not logic.

Don't get me wrong, he's an evil fuck and I am surely not losing sleep over this. But this isn't a point... the guy's life was over anyway, always on the run.

Edit: What I'm trying to say is that he was no longer a threat anyway, and we all knew he'd eventually die. I thought it would be someone finding and killing him and hoping for a cash reward from the US.

While his death may not be a tactical win for America, it removes a big splinter that has been stuck under our collective skin for 10 years.  I think for our own national morale, he needed to die, and he needed to die at the hands of our military.

I agree that this wasn't necessarily tactical...but don't downplay the symbolism of this event.  From troop morale to the fears in the minds of our enemies, this victory was more symbolic than anything.  This weekend, we proved that if you want to mess with us, just know there isn't anywhere you can hide....might not wanna go outside either.

its not just revenge dude.  that guy murdered thousands of americans, those peoples families wanted justice.  if he had done that and lived in america and we found him he'd still get the death penalty.  This guy was a threat if we left him alone and didn't keep chasing him.  He had enough money to fund many more attacks and taking out the leader of an organization like that is huge for morale, and immensely damaging to the organization as a whole.

I agree with Running. When I found out last night it was more of a "so what?" moment really. All he was doing was hiding, it was all he could do. What has he been doing the past 10 years? - Not much. Sure losing a leader may bring the organization down a peg but there are still tons of people who follow his views. Another leader will just step up and this will just continue.  He deserved to die, yes...but as Running said, he was dead either way. I do however agree with Squish in that the mental effect of this is going to be beneficial.

Also, I still think that the 9/11 attacks stink of something else and that he wasn't the only one involved.

When people are flooding the streets to celebrate in the middle of the night, it's a big deal.  USA needed this.  Of course he was going to die, that's obvious, but he died at our hands.  It's a message to the terrorists that you cannot run/hide, if you hit us... we will come and get you and will not give up until we do so.  It's a message to all the victims that we did not give up.  It's a congratulations to the military for a job well done.

This is a celebratory moment, please don't shit on it.

I like how the two people disagreeing with this topic are not americans.

stop pooping on our celebratory topics or i will be forced to turn this into a make fun of canada/argue with running and be ignorant of his replies topic. Don't make me do it.

edit: my first sentence came off harsh, i found it rather funny, but just wanted to point it out :D

he wasn't the only one involved but he was the primary financial backers of the attack.  Money is power.  If we had left him alone and not chased him, this guy would have the resources to do this type of stuff again, maybe not in america, but he would definitely attack again.  If it happened to canada you'd be singing a different tune, it wouldn't be "so what?" you guys would be as happy as we are now.  An evil man got smoked last night and got what he deserved.  He wasn't dead while he was being chased, this guy was still planning shit, and i guarentee that asshole was hding in there for years.  just planning shit.  They said that he had 3 couriers with him at the time.  which means plenty of orders were slipped through using these guys that we had no idea even were part of al qaeda.  This guy dying puts a huge hit on al qaeda's ability to a substantial terrorist force.  And yes, somone else of the same ideals will probably just step up, but they will be no where near as effective as Bin Laden, thye just don't have his type of finances.  For all our talking back and forth, osama, was a smart dude.

It was revenge. Accomplishing revenge can boost morale. If you guys know me at all you know that I often 'get even' in an unfriendly manner at times, so I understand this. But morale or pride or whatever, it is still just revenge. Sorry if you don't like that word, but it shouldn't change how happy you are that he's dead.

it was 'just revenge' to the same extent that on 9/11, the terrorists 'just took down a couple of buildings'.

One of the Tennessee Basketball players released this song this morning:

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/30458/swiperboy-releases-tribute-to-the-troops

It's a good song.  This guy cranks out songs for every major event in TN.  It's crazy.  He's fairly talented.
