Computer Help
« on: April 21, 2011, 06:22:30 PM »
So last night i got this weird "fake virus"  thing called WIndows recovery.  It showed up and told me i had issues with my harddrive blah blah blah.  I didn't do shit with it, but i did do a system restore.  The restore got rid of it, but it was still hogging up my cpu usage (it was up to using 100%) and drummer sent me Malwarebytes to use.  Malware bytes got rid of the Windows recovery thing, but it didn't get rid of this other problem i'm having. For some reason, i can hear advertisements without having a browser open.  this doesn't happen after i open firefox, it happens like as soon as i start up my computer.  i've ran malwarebytes, i've ran my spysweeper, i've ran my antivirus, and nothing.  this is so friggin annoying and i have no idea how to fix it. I've even googled it but got nothing.  someone please help me.

http://www.comodo.com/home/download/download.php?prod=anti-malware

if you get the comodo anti-malware you'll have to uninstall anything else you have on your system that does antivirus etc. but comodo is great and free. so throw those on your system and run some scans. let us know whats going on with that.

Error 418 and with no help from me figured out what program is causing all the ads and figured out how to get it so i couldn't hear them any more.  But we couldn't remove the program.  I guess it's called StartCCC because that is what my computer had been blocking on start up.  Can anyone help?

A few apps that can help removing "FAKE" virus malware are Hijack This http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ and Maleware Bytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/. Both are free and quite easy to use.

The only three current antispyware programs worth anything are:

Malwarebytes AntiMalware
SuperAntiSpyware
Combofix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix <--- download first, run it, and that ought to clear up any serious trouble. Then google the other two and run them, and that will get rid of anything you have, except that herp DJ, you got that one for life. :p

What anti-virus/anti-malware program do you generally run?

So I ran combofix and now I'm stuck at this screen that says administrator and it's not doing anything....combofix rebooted my computer cuz it found rootkit activity, now its stuck here.  I can minimize maximiZe and close out.......

Iba, i think that combofix might have got it.  I have the log open, but i have no idea what i'm looking at.  it's definitely running better than before.

So combofix completely ran, and gave you the 3M report log? Paste that log here.

If you had a rootkit installed, nobody was going to get that thing but combofix... and maybe SAS, but combofix is the undisputed king of rootkit killers.
