BF3 Server Feedback
« on: October 05, 2011, 08:39:01 PM »
A potential donor (in addition to OneShot) has approached me with the proposition of hosting a server in the [IAM] name.  However, with our "filling server" concerns of the past, this poll is to gauge your support of such a server.

Thanks for your feedback.

To clarify my vote of "I would play on it even if it were empty," I will idle on the server, mumble and youtube.

I'll go oldschool like I did in the CS days if I actually get into this game.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting this game in the end due to sheer computer limitations and lack of cash.
I would otherwise play on the server.

Just to let you guys know though early adoption is key to running a successful server.
So if you do plan on getting a server, get it soon and advertise the hell out of it.

Fig is 100% correct in his statement. I know our  CS server was successful for a few reasons: 1. Started in early CS days. 2. It was a Canadian server (At that time location mattered and a lot of Canadians are gamers) 3. We were always on it, I would come home from school and just idle in there, never took long for others to meet up with me.

I think I'd play (I'm having quite a bit of fun with the beta, even with the weird browser based matchmaking)

Of course, I need to buy the game still...(that comes later in the week, methinks)

Idling is my specialty. I can definitely change where I idle.

To give a brief:

I used to come in and idle at almost the same time every day back in teh CS days. Right after school, or right after football. It was great because there were a bunch of people who did the same. I can't remember exactly who at the moment, but the timing was cool. I'd see some come in, and expected them. Then I'd expect certain others about 30 minutes later

you guys do realize that kyle will be working on the 20% rule...20% of you that put you will idle when no one else is on can be depended on to actually do that.

Are we going to do the same thing we do in mumble??

If you idle for more the # minutes you get kicked??  Cause it kind-of defeats the point.

I am the 1 vote for not playing it cause my comp cant handle it and I do not own it :)

The idle timer on mumble is an hour.  That's significant for those purposes.

We're now up to 50%, which makes me wonder how honest people are - we've never had 50% people that play a game willing to idle on an empty server.

I'll idle in it no matter what. *thumbs up* I've actually got a job secured now where I work from home doing webpage design and i'll be doing early morning classes for massage therapy, so a YEAR from now i may not be able to but for the next 8 months. I'll be idle in the server.
