White Rice
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:40:50 AM »
So, I've had an account on the forums here for a while, but hadn't posted anything until today.

So, that's me, and a bag of my blood (I give rather regularly, type B+)
You could call me Robert, as that's my name, but more often than not, I'm called Bobert (huzzah silly nicknames)
I pretty much always go by White Rice in games, though I've modified it if the original is taken (usually with additional spaces/underscores, or a zero somewhere)
I'm a California boy, always have been, and it'll most likely stay that way (woo PST)
I'm 26, and will be until May 12th, then I'll be 27 :-D
I've been playing games for as long as I can remember, starting with arcades and my old NES back in the late 80's, and, aside from being without current gaming for a few years in the middle of my life (middle-school/highschool mostly) I've always tried too keep current in consoles, PC, and other media games.  Of the things I play currently, L4D(2): Been playing since release; TF2: Played since release, but with breaks here & there; LOL (though not as frequently as other games, and with a completely different/random-ish username "Whitt Riccu"); Starcraft 2: lots, though mostly single player, or playing with The Captain (yay Steve); I've enjoyed Half Life, and all the games that came off of that core game (mods, sequels, mods to sequels, everything)  I'm willing to try just about any game, and, save for most sports games, will most likely find some sort of enjoyment from the game (even if it is just some campy, psudo-"ironic" enjoyment)
Hobbies: Gaming (kinda obvious, but it really is) reading (mostly fantasy/sci-fi, though I'll pick up just about anything & read it too) airsofting when the weather allows, and I can find somewhere to play; riding my bike around; hitting the arcade (yup, more games, but in a more social environ); tinkering with electronics/computers.  I enjoy doing whatever makes me happy.
I work as security at the Marin County courts, meaning I get to be TSA, but there isn't any T or A (that sounds much more inappropriate than it is, there's not Travel, and we are quite lacking in any Administration, but we are Security, ergo TSA-T-A=S)  I run one of the X-Ray machines we've got, checking out all the junk that people bring with them to court (fun story, early last month I found a fully loaded Springfield Arms XD9 in this one womans purse)  It's a job, and the pay is enough to stay alive, and the hours are easy enough, but it isn't my dream job, and should something better come around, I'll be out of there in no time.
Ooh, how I found [IAM]!  Well, I used to live with AGTMADCAT (yay Sim) back in the day (the day being about 6 years ago) and am real-world friends with him, Antagonist (woo Felix) beloveddoll (hi Amy!) and thecaptain (woo Steve again)  So, through playing with friends, and just living life with friends.
Useful skills...I have a great memory for random, useless knowledge!  I've been known to help troubleshoot random PC hardware problems, and I just know some random stuff, so I'm always willing to share whatever I may have to share, or at least point you in the right direction.  Oh, I'm pretty darn good at music games, though I can't see how that would help out others too much :-/
So, yeah, that's me in a nutshell.  I'm a guy (realized that wasn't stated anywhere else, and I'm going stream of consciousness here, so no backtracking/editing other than spelling here!) I work bankers hours, I game, I manage my apartment complex, I game, I read, and I game.
Well, that's enough of an intro for me (I always feel a little odd writing about myself, I'm really not that amazing, so spending so much time on me seems...off) a number of you either already know me, or have played with me, and yeah...here I am (heh, I am, yay unintentional puns)

By far the most thorough "About me" yet. Someone bake this guy some cookies for being the winner. If he doesn't like cookies, make him pie. If he doesn't like pie... well.... I just don't know...

Woo, internet cookies, and just in time for Thanksgiving!  I'm happy to be here, and look forward to playing a number of games with as many (or more, I suppose) new people.  Also, forgot that Twist (woo to Chris this time) was a member...but then I remembered, and felt silly for forgetting in the first place (Highschool together, but I escaped first)

Well I know 2 things about you already just from the pic. You're not a hard drug user, and you're not at a high risk for hiv/aids. (Can't give blood otherwise... Atleast here you can't)

I like it. Welcome to the forums xD lol

He's also clear of any blood related diseases such a enemia, heamophelia, or any blood clotting issues. We also know he likes to wear plain comfortable clothing, but doesn't look like a bum. He has poor vision and long hair for a guy (typically means he's not uptight). He's obviously thorough and rambles a little bit, which is good cause it gives you something to read. He smiles for pictures, so he's not a dick or a tough guy. Good in my books.

I've yet to faint while giving blood, but I have gotten a wicked case of "the giggles" in the middle of being drained (everything was just SO FUNNY!)  So, is it the needles, the weird environment, or the quantity of blood (either visually, or from being removed) that does you in?

It's the amount of blood removed. Needles and the look of blood don't bother me at all (I'm going to become a doctor). I am always fine after they take my blood. I sit down, have some juice or tea and then three minutes later I am on the floor haha. I am majorly anemic and my body just can't handle the amount of blood being taken from me. But I still go to give blood when I can. Fainting and being weak for a day or two is nothing when I know I could have saved a life.

Ah, that would do it then.  I'm guessing that the double red donations are out then (yay getting concentrated blood removed, and getting plasma/saline back!)
The worst for me was the idea of the needles, and having my first time take 45 minutes (I had a rather poor flow that day) but after that, it's been cake (well, cookies and juice...)

First time I tried to give blood, the girl stuck me, took the needle out, put it back in, took it out, put it back in.. Stuck me three times before she stopped saying "I can't go anymore or I will really mess up your arm". I guess she didn't think three holes very close together in a vein was a bad idea... It took 12 minutes to clot and stop bleeding after 25 patches of goze and a bag of ice.. Not to mention the mass amount of blood under my skin and the huge bruise the next day...

Back to where I was originally going though, I started laughing non-stop after she stuck me the second time, and after commenting on it she told me it was from being nervous, which made sense considering when it started.
